Someone has a weekend in full swing, and someone is preparing to go to work. We offer to discuss the latest news! Today we will talk about the new round of Apple and Spotify proceedings, the revolutionary function in WatchOS 6 and much more.
The Marzipan project, in which Apple is developing specialized tools for the unification of applications for iOS and macOS, will not be the most significant release of WWDC 2019. As reported by Bloomberg, citing sources, the company will pay special attention to updates to branded applications at the Worldwide Developers Conference. watchOS 6, which awaits, perhaps, the most significant upgrade in the history of the operating system.
“Apple plans to equip [Apple] Watch with its own App Store to allow users to download applications directly,” writes Mark Gourman, a columnist for Bloomberg. “This innovation can open up tremendous opportunities for independent developers by increasing the number of downloads.”
If Apple really opens access to the App Store to Apple Watch users, the smart watch can be considered a full-fledged, rather than an assistive device, which they remain until now. This will necessarily lead to a sharp increase in interest in the line, providing an increase in the number of users who previously believed that the Apple Watch is a gadget for receiving incoming notifications and measuring heart rate, and developers who have not seen any potential in the watch.
But Apple is not only counting on the fact that third-party developers provide the App Store content for the Apple Watch, but is also working to adapt branded applications to work on smart watches. According to Gourmet, in Cupertino, such programs as Calculator, Maps, Apple Books are ready to be transferred to Apple Watch with the ability to play audio books and an updated version of Health. Together with support for LTE, these applications will provide Apple Watch the opportunity to complete work without connecting to the iPhone. Unfortunately, the ability to connect watches to cellular networks today is not available in all countries of the world.
The confrontation between Apple and Spotify, which began with a verbal skirmish, allegedly due to Apple’s obstruction of promoting third-party audio services on the App Store, has reached a new level. As reported by The Wall Street Journal, citing three sources, the European Commission became interested in the situation and plans to investigate the circumstances of the case and draw its own conclusions about the guilt or innocence of the company from Cupertino. According to the interlocutors of the publication, the investigation may take several years and, in the event of violations, lead to serious consequences for the business of Apple.
The reason for the European Commission to intervene in the dispute between the two companies was the complaint of the Swedish audio service to the obstacles that Apple is fixing competitors to make Apple Music look more advantageous against them. In particular, in Cupertino they impose third-party services, distributed through the App Store, with a commission of 30% of each transaction, delaying updates, and also limiting their work on proprietary devices. As a result, users cannot listen to music from Spotify on the HomePod directly and cannot control playback using Siri.
Apple does not acknowledge the allegations made by Spotify, considering them frivolous. According to company representatives, for all the time the moderators missed more than 200 updates in the App Store and only a few of them were detained due to violations. In addition, the amount of commission from each transaction performed is 30% only in the first year, and from the second it drops to 15%. Cancel the same commission at all in Cupertino can not, because such rules apply only to taxi services and online stores.
If the European Commission finds Apple guilty, it may be required to pay a fine of 10% of annual revenue, as well as change the rules for interaction with third-party developers, which will create a dangerous precedent. He can impose a serious imprint on the business model of Apple, which risks losing the opportunity to earn commission fees, because they can be eradicated as a class if the European Commission considers them to be a defamatory factor and officially allow developers to accept payment outside the App Store.
Before the release of new iPhone models, there is not much time left – just a few months. And every day more and more information about upcoming updates appears on the Web. Today it became known about another distinctive feature of the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Max. Authoritative analyst Ming Chi-Kuo is confident that smartphones will receive new antennas using MPI technology that has not previously been used in mobile devices from other manufacturers.
According to the analyst, a new type of antenna will allow smartphones to work much faster and more stable in 4G mobile networks. This was achieved through the use of new materials – modified polyimides (MPI). Now the company uses LCP-antennas in current models, which are inferior to new ones in a number of key parameters.
It is expected that the introduction of new antennas will improve the signal and the quality of indoor communication. This will be a big plus when Apple moves to a more promising fifth-generation mobile network technology.
However, changing the internal design of antennas in the iPhone may entail certain consequences. Cuo believes that this will seriously complicate the production of new models, and as a result, Apple may increase the cost of new products by 10% year on year.
The analyst is confident that Apple will use LCP materials in future iPad models, starting from the end of the fourth quarter of 2019. It was then, according to expert forecasts, that two new iPad Pro models with 11 and 12.9 inch screens will be launched into mass production. Recall that Apple will present the iPhone model range in September of this year. It is already known that the new products will acquire high-speed Wi-Fi and improved Face ID sensors. In this case, the line of upcoming Apple smartphones, as in the past year, will consist of three models – the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Max and the successor to the iPhone XR.
