Coinbase announces WalletLink

In its official blog, Coinbase has announced a new service called WalletLink: it is a feature that allows users to access their applications directly from any browser by connecting to their Coinbase Wallet wallet.

The announcement states that “starting today, Coinbase Wallet users will be able to use their favorite decentralized applications (dapps) in any browser with WalletLink Coinbase Wallet.”

WalletLink is a kind of “secure bridge” between the Coinbase Wallet app and the desktop browser. It is enough to scan the QR code, after which the user can immediately use dApp, while keeping the funds in the wallet safe.

Coinbase has always supported the use of various platforms, which, according to the company, has helped it gain hundreds of thousands of users:

  • Google Chrome
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Brave
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Opera

Private user keys will be stored on their mobile devices. This is a mechanism that allows users not to install bulky extensions in their browser, as well as copy and paste private keys, which may not be safe.

To test Coinbase WalletLink, you need to update the Coinbase Wallet version (19.1 for iOS and 18.0 for Android) and go to one of the following applications that are currently integrated with the service. In the future, the company plans to increase their number.

After scanning the QR code using the Coinbase Wallet mobile application, the service is activated. During the transaction, a notification will be sent to the user’s phone with a request for confirmation.
