Cryptocurrencies, especially Bitcoin, receive a lot of opposition from the authorities, and such obstacles seem to be many more on its way.
US President Donald Trump recently made a lot of noise in cryptospace, saying that “cryptocurrency is not money.” However, he received a well-deserved response even from runaway presidential candidate John McAfee, who is currently hiding in Cuba.
Countries such as the United States, China and India are constantly complaining about the possibilities of cryptocurrency. China is now engaged in the survival of Bitcoin-miners from its territory; India proposed a bill banning trading in digital currencies; and the United States shows a fear of devaluation of the dollar, while Bitcoin and other coins are going to grow and develop freely.
The “greatest” event of the year was the announcement of the not yet launched Libra cryptocurrency from Facebook, from which central banks and governments trembled, especially after learning that this steyblecoin will be tied to a basket of currencies, among which the dollar will again dominate.
The US Congress itself has already condemned the creation of Libra; and China, having learned about Facebook’s plans, decided to accelerate the creation of its own cryptocurrency from the central bank – so “to keep up with payments” from similar innovative projects.
Now the crypto space has managed to hear Donald Trump’s opinion about bitcoins. On July 11, he tweeted:
“I am not a fan of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies that do not represent money, which are very variable in price, and which are based on nothing. Unregulated cryptocurrency assets may contribute to illegal activities, including drug trafficking, etc. Similarly, Facebook’s Libra “virtual currency” will not be reliable. If Facebook and other companies want to play the role of banks, then they must obey the banking rules, just like national and international banks. We have only one real reliable currency in the United States, and now it is stronger than ever. It is by far the most dominant currency in the world, which will always remain the same. This is the US dollar! ”
John McAfee answered Donald Trump’s tweet
Maxco’s bitcoin-maximalist John McAfee noted in response to Trump’s words that drug trafficking is currently valued at $ 200 billion.
“Do you think cryptocurrency contributes to illegal activities such as drug trafficking ??? And I think that the current drug trade at $ 200 billion is estimated in US dollars and paid for by them. Can you still say that those drugs are priced and paid for with bananas or soy milk? ”
